How does an automatic standby generator know when to turn on?

An Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) is installed next to your main electrical panel. It continuously monitors incoming utility power. The moment utility voltage drops or fails completely, the ATS commands the generator to start and transfers your electrical circuits to backup power within seconds.

What size generator do I need for my home?

Generator sizing depends on whether you want to power essential circuits (refrigeration, lights, heating, well pump) or your entire property, including central air conditioning. Our technicians conduct an on-site load calculation to match you with the ideal capacity (typically ranging from 10kW to 28kW for homes).

Are you authorized to perform warranty repairs on Generac units?

Yes. Twin Oaks is a factory-authorized Generac sales, service, and warranty dealer. If your unit encounters an issue covered under manufacturer warranty, our technicians can diagnose and complete the warranty work directly.

How often should an automatic standby generator be serviced?

Like an automobile engine, standby generators require scheduled preventative maintenance at least once per year (or after every 100–200 hours of continuous runtime during prolonged outages). This includes fresh oil, new oil and air filters, spark plugs, and battery testing.

Comprehensive Standby Power Solutions

Residential Automatic Backup Power

When severe winter ice storms or summer thunderstorms knock out the power grid, an automatic home standby generator restores electricity within seconds. Fueled by existing liquid propane (LP) or natural gas lines, it runs continuously without the hassle of refueling gas cans or running hazardous extension cords.

Residential Air-Cooled
Generators

We specialize in Generac’s industry-leading residential air-cooled standby generators, ranging up to 28kW. Whether you need an essential-circuit system, well pump, and furnace, or a high-capacity unit for whole-home coverage, we match your property with the exact kilowatt capacity required.

Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) & Wiring

Installing a standby generator requires professional electrical and fuel integration. We manage the entire project: sizing your power load, setting the equipment pad, wiring the Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS), and coordinating final electrical connections safely and up to regional code.

Generac Warranty Repairs & Seasonal Tune-Ups

A generator is an engine that needs regular care so it starts reliably during an emergency. As an authorized servicing dealer, we handle factory warranty repairs, annual oil and filter changes, valve adjustments, spark plug replacements, and battery load testing.

Why Choose an Automatic Standby Generator Over a Portable Unit?

While portable generators provide temporary power in a pinch, an automatic Generac standby generator provides true hands-free peace of mind whether you are at home, asleep, or away on vacation:

Automatic Hands-Free Transfer: Standby systems sense power loss instantly, start automatically, and transfer back to utility power once the grid is restored.

Permanent Fuel Connection: Runs directly on your home's LP or natural gas line, eliminating the need to store, transport, or pour flammable gasoline in the dark.

Whole-Property Capability: Powers heavy 230V mechanical loads—including central heat pumps, well pumps, sump pumps, and walk-in freezers—that small portable units cannot handle.

Safe & Weatherproof: Housed in a durable, outdoor enclosure that operates safely in pouring rain, ice, and high winds without carbon monoxide risks inside the structure.
